BCA A-2 Ext with Saw Review
Shovels are an essential backcountry item that everyone venturing into the woods should be carrying with them. But there are so many to choose from, how do you know a good one from a bad one? Well the plastic shovels have seemed to come and gone, so now we are left with metal shovels. They range in price from $15.00 all the way up to $100.
One of the best shovels on the market that we have used is the BCA A2 Shovel. It meets all the necesities and then goes a lot further. We love the oval shaft that naturally lines up the shovel shaft to the head. The shovel head is super tough, with the pressed in shape that really makes this blade bulletproof.
The Grip of the shovel is very comfortable in hand for long periods and you don’t notice there is a saw in the shaft at all during use. Additionally, when the saw is removed, the shovel works just the same.
The Saw offers a 28 cm long blade that is perfect for isolating columns, cutting down firewood, penetrating ice blocks, or shaping a snow dragon. The saw blade fits vey nicely in the handle, although it’s a bit hard to get out with glove on, it feels very solid and high quality for the size and functionality.
The BCA A-2 is on the higher end of cost for a shovel, but if you are planning on purchasing a snow saw, it’s highly recommended to get one in the shaft of the handle rather than have to pack a razor sharp blade in your pack and risk it tearing up other goods in your pack.
